Many people in Chesapeake experience whiplash each year. It is often a combination of pain in the neck, shoulders, and base of the skull which can become severe for those who have been in an auto accident. While some people recover from this problem within a short period of time, many people develop chronic pain and symptoms that last from several months to many years.
Chiropractic care may be required for treating injuries from whiplash, and your chiropractor can use a number of different techniques to restore joint and soft tissue function. Our chiropractors have had a great deal of success when working with auto accident whiplash injuries.
Symptoms of whiplash injuries may be delayed for 24 hours or more after the initial trauma. However, people who experience this trauma may develop one or more of the following symptoms within the first few days after the injury:
Neck pain and stiffness
Pain in the shoulder or between the shoulder blades
Dizziness
Ringing in the ears or blurred vision
Difficulty concentrating or remembering
Irritability
Sleep disturbances
Migraines
Whiplash symptoms can take days, weeks, or even months to develop. Many people think that they are okay after a car accident, fall, or other initial injury. However, slowly the typical symptoms listed above may begin to develop. Even worse, many people have been told in the early days of their injury that they are fine, and that they should simply go home and rest for a few days. If you have been injured in an auto accident and feel that you may have a whiplash injury take the time to have a chiropractor look at your spine.
Whiplash can have long-term effects on your spinal health, and in the long-run it can be associated with other spinal conditions such as osteoarthritis and premature disk degeneration.
In the Woodward study, 93% of the 28 patients studied retrospectively were found to have a statistically significant improvement following chiropractic care. Chiropractic care in the study consisted of spinal manipulation, PNF and cryotherapy. Most of the 28 patients had prior treatment with NSAIDs, soft colors and physiotherapy. The average length of time before the patient's began chiropractic care was 15.5 months post-MVA.
This study clearly documented what most chiropractors have experienced in clinical practice: That chiropractic care is an effective modality for patient's injured in motor vehicle accidents. Symptoms ranging from headaches to neck pain, back pain, inter-scapular pain and related extremity pain with numbness and tingling often respond to quality chiropractic care.
Our Chesapeake Chiropractors are experienced at working with patient's who have been experiencing symptoms from a whiplash injury. Call today to see if chiropractic care can help you.

“I have experienced moderate to severe lower back and hip pain. I am now pregnant with my third child and the pain had become so intense that there were days I was completely immobile. I had been using Tylenol multiple times per day just to get by with minimal activity. Since seeking chiropractic care, I have been able to tolerate more activity and gave ceased using pain medication. Dr. Chad and his practice have been such an answer to prayer in my life, and I am now able to look ahead to the duration of this pregnancy with hope and faith that my pain can be managed.” -Amber D.

“I began to have extreme neck pain. I didn’t sleep well from tossing and turning, while trying to get comfortable. I then began to notice a bump on my back between my shoulder blades. I had never been to a chiropractor before, so I didn’t know what to expect. Within one to two adjustments I had relief. My neck and back all began to feel wonderful! I was so impressed with Dr. Chad, I made my husband start seeing him and have referred two other people to seek his care. Listen to your body. Don’t ignore it. Open your mind and let Dr. Chad help with the pain and discomfort.” -Alicia K.

“I suffered for two years with chronic chest pain, shortness of breath and dysphagia. I would also experience occasional back spasms that would leave me immobile for hours at a time. I went through twenty-seven different tests all coming back negative and giving no relief. Dr. Chad did what a cardiologist, gastroenterologist, ENT, allergist, and pulmonologist could not- find what was causing my debilitating illness. Dr. Chad goes beyond the call of duty to ensure his patients are on the road to good health. I can’t say enough things about him.” -Rick J.
